OFFICIAL RULES
What to Do?
1. Create a DIY project in accordance with the contest theme. The theme is "Inspired DIY" - meaning you must create a project that is inspired by a photograph/illustration. You must submit the Inspiration Photograph along with AT LEAST 2 photos of your project during the creation process, AND AT LEAST 2 photos of the final, finished DIY piece. All in all, you must submit a minimum of 5 photos for one project.2. "Inspired DIY" Inspiration Photograph Guidelines: It can be a photograph you took or someone else's. (If it's someone else's, provide a credit to the photo with your submission. "From U.S. Vogue August 2010 issue" or "photo by Mario Testino" is sufficient.) It can be a runway photograph, a photo of a piece of designer clothing, a photograph of nature, a magazine scan, an illustration - pretty much anything.
How to Submit a Project?
3. Project Guidelines: Include also a materials list and step-by-step how-to for creation of your project, through the CutOutandKeep.net Project Submission interface. Your final creation can be made from scratch (i.e., you sewed a dress) or embellishments added to something (i.e., you added studs to a bag you bought). You can even "knock off" a designer piece! DO NOT RE-CREATE A DIY PROJECT THAT ALREADY EXISTS, OR FOLLOW A PATTERN OR TUTORIAL, UNLESS YOU CHANGE IT TO PUT YOUR OWN PERSONAL STAMP ON IT. We want to see ORIGINAL PROJECTS and TUTORIALS from you! (It’s okay if you’ve submitted your project elsewhere, say on CutOutandKeep or Craftster or somewhere else, as long as it’s your own work.)4. A Project can be for women, men, kids, or babies, but must be submitted into ONE of three categories:
*Wearables
(clothing of any sort!)
*Jewelry
(decoration for the ears, neck, arms, body, belly, legs etc)
*Accessories
(anything not obviously jewelry; handbags, belts, armwarmers, gloves, socks, tights, hats etc.)
NO CROSS-POSTING OF THE SAME PROJECT TO DIFFERENT CATEGORIES!!
By When?
5. Submissions open on August 15 at thttp://www.cutoutandkeep.6. Submissions close on September 5.
How Will the Projects Be Judged?
7. From September 5-September 15 the judging panel will judge all the submissions, scoring them in FOUR categories:*Adherence to Theme (can we see a direct relationship between your Inspiration Photo and your creation? How well have you replicated the look?)
*Creativity (any interesting materials used? How have you managed to cut corners or make use of what you have on hand to create the final piece?)
*Wearability (is this wearable or usable outside of Halloween? Is this costumey or fashionable? Emphasis placed on Fashionable)
*Quality (are the seams puckery or ill-sewn? Obvious gobs of glue? Or does it appear well-made?)
